Artist Bio

I love Washington. I am fourth generation on my father’s side and third on my mothers. My husband was third generation on Bainbridge Island. The natural beauty of this state inspires my art.

After being self-taught for many years, I attended Gage Academy in Seattle for two years and studied extensively at the Seattle Architectural Finishes Studio. Upon completion of my studies, I started Henshaw Murals and Finishes with my husband, working exclusively with designers on commercial projects and in private homes. After nine years, when our business ended suddenly with the Great Recession of 2008, we found ourselves in Culver City, California. We moved to Sequim in 2020, to be in close proximity to work on a nine-acre family camping property bordering the National Park.

I enjoy the spontaneity of plein- air, the interaction with nature, painting out of doors. I also enjoy studio work that allows time to think things through. I paint in oils and in ”Flashe,” a water-based paint from France favored by muralists for its matte surface. I also enjoy pyrography (wood burning) as it seems so appropriate to our wooded environment.

I have been pursuing art in one form or another for over fifty years. I am proud of the skills I have acquired and continue to strive to meet the endless challenges that
art offers.
