Artist Statement

Being around a mother who always had something going on in her sewing room, I was able to play with scraps to make my dolls clothes and accessories.   Being inventive was encouraged and rewarded in our home.

It is a wonderful challenge to create art with fabric.  When I cannot find the right material, I find painting on fabric is an option.  I am encouraged by my art quilt friends who inspire me to try new techniques.  I use fiber, including silk, cotton, thread, beads, shells and paper as in collage to depict landscapes.    Making wall hangings, books, boxes and various items with fibers, including paper, is satisfying.

Many teachers in the field of art quilts teach composition, color theory, as well as construction.  I have had the privilege of attending many classes from teachers who are nationally known.

Being torn between two art forms, painting and fiber art, is challenging as well as rewarding.
